Shaila's Biography

Shaila, a proud mom of three, is a New York City success story.  She attended elementary schools in Harlem, the Martin Luther King High School and was the first African American woman to win the title "Teen New York City."  It was this contest that increased her interest in the media world.  After graduating Buffalo State College with a B.A. in Radio and Television, Shaila was so talented that she immediately began her professional career in broadcasting as an on air personality in Buffalo.  After four years, she joined the New York City radio scene.  In 1994, with ten years professional radio experience,  Shaila joined the KISS FM family and has been adding a sincere sister-friendly flavor ever since.

Shaila has achieved numerous professional and community service awards.  In 1997, she was listed as one of the Outstanding Women in Radio.  In the summer of 2000, both WPIX television and the New York Post featured Shaila as one of the top five Radio Divas in New York.   She has also been named one of the top 30 Radio Personalities in the country according to Upscale Magazine.  She has won the Martin Luther King Community Service Award, the Belizean Association Extraordinary Woman of the Year Award, Kiss FM Phenomenal Woman honors, and the NAACP Community Action Award.  Shaila has been featured in countless magazine and newspaper articles and had even contributed a column to Today's Child Magazine named after her radio feature, "Mommy Moments."  Her community service contributions include spearheading fund raising efforts for breast cancer research by creating a "Kiss for the Cure," an event heavily supported by the radio and music industry.  In 2007, Shaila founded "Sisterly Kiss," an entertainment organization that raises funds for several causes, based on her famous broadcast progressive thought for the day.

Volumes can be written about Shaila and her legacy.  Consider yourself lucky that you can tune into Shaila's Midday Cafe Show, weekdays 10am to 3pm on 98.7 KISS FM, and hear this remarkable diva in person.  She continues to bless us with Mommy Moments, Phenomenal Woman features and her popular Sisterly Kisses.
